BELLWETHER, Iowa (CNM) -- Sen. Harlan Whitcomb leads Gov. Della Price-Morrow 34 percent to 25 percent among likely caucus-goers, according to the CNM/Bellwether Gazette poll released Thursday. A month ago, his lead was 19 points.

Whitcomb's lead over the past three months

Rep. Otis Fenwick drew 6 percent and businessman Rex Ambergast 4 percent. Thirty-one percent said they were undecided, and 11 percent of those said they were "waiting to see what happens with Y2K."

"The race is tightening," said pollster Corinne Abbate. "Voters are starting to pay attention, which happens every four years at about this time, usually right after they finish their Christmas shopping."
