Rep. Fenwick enters race on dial-up connection

TWIN FORKS, Montana (CNM) -- Rep. Otis Fenwick said Wednesday he wanted to be "the first presidential candidate of the Internet age," and to prove it he announced his candidacy in a live video broadcast over the Web from his living room.

The broadcast, viewable at a resolution of 160 by 120 pixels, was interrupted twice when Fenwick's wife picked up the kitchen phone. Viewers saw the image freeze, followed by a message reading "Connection lost."

"That is what real America looks like," Fenwick said afterward. "Real America has one phone line."

Campaign aides said they planned to add a second line by January.
