SAINT ULRIC, Louisiana (CNM) -- Clovis Arceneaux says his videocassette recorder has displayed "12:00" -- blinking -- for six years, and that the manufacturer's instructions for setting the clock "would confuse a rocket scientist, and I have asked one."

In a suit filed in Saint Ulric Parish court, Arceneaux seeks $1.2 million in damages from the manufacturer, Hoshimoto Electronics, citing "years of flashing" that he says has disrupted his sleep and his marriage.
"Every night, it blinks at me," he told reporters. "It is mocking me."
Hoshimoto said it was reviewing the complaint and noted that newer models set their clocks automatically. Legal experts gave the suit little chance of success, though one said it might "resonate with a jury of VCR owners."
