NEW YORK (CNM) -- At least 70 law firms have created practice groups devoted to Year 2000 disputes, according to a legal trade publication, and several have bought radio ads inviting listeners to call "if the bug has bitten you."

Congress this year passed a law limiting some Y2K lawsuits, but experts say plenty of room remains for disputes over contracts, insurance and warranties.
"If a computer fails, someone will sue. If a computer does not fail, someone will sue the consultant who said it would," said Abigail Strand, a law professor at New Bramford University. "Either way, lawyers are Y2K compliant."
Some firms have reportedly asked their attorneys to be on call on New Year's Day. One managing partner said his office would be stocked with champagne "and a fax machine that we have tested very thoroughly."
