Cat Sleeps on My Keyboard
Ask the Vet with Dr. Bea Woofington, DVM
Q: My cat Biscuit lies across my keyboard every morning while I am trying to trade stocks. Yesterday she accidentally sold 300 shares of something. Why does she do this? — Doris K., Tempe, Arizona |
A: Your keyboard is warm, it is right in front of you, and it is where your attention is. To a cat, that is the perfect bed. Biscuit is not interested in the market; she is interested in you.
Put a soft, warm cat bed or a folded towel right beside your monitor so she can be close without lying on the keys. A sunny window perch nearby helps too. Give her ten minutes of play before the opening bell so she is ready for a nap. And please, set your trading software to ask for confirmation. I am a veterinarian, not a stockbroker, but even I know that much.
