SAN BELISARIO, Sandovar (CNM) -- Sandovar's national lottery said Friday it would award 2,000 prizes of 2,000 pesos each in a special draw on New Year's Eve, a promotion that has sent ticket sales soaring.
The draw will be conducted with a hand-cranked wooden drum built in 1899, which officials described as "the most reliable machine in the country, and the only one we are sure about."
Long lines formed outside lottery kiosks in the capital, and some vendors reported running out of tickets by mid-morning. Street sellers were offering "lucky" numbers ending in 00 at a markup.
The lottery's director said the winners would be announced on radio and in newspapers, "and on the Internet, if the Internet is still there."
