Body glitter: the sparkle that never goes away

HALCYON SPRINGS, Florida (CNM) -- Cosmetics counters report that body glitter -- tiny reflective flakes suspended in gel or sprayed from an aerosol can -- is the top-selling item among shoppers under 25 this season.

"It is fun, it is festive, it is very 2000," said makeup artist Jaz Moreno. "It catches the light. It also catches on everything else, forever."

Parents say the glitter migrates. "I found it in the meatloaf," said Halcyon Springs mother Carla Reyes. "Nobody in this house wears glitter in the kitchen. It simply arrived."

Manufacturers say a new "Y2K Silver" shade will be available by Christmas. Dermatologists advise removing glitter before bed, "if possible, which it may not be."
