PORT SABRINO (CNM) -- Flags were being sewn, bands rehearsed and harbor ferries repainted Tuesday as this bustling port city of 430,000 prepared for its handover to the Republic of Tamberlay on Monday.

Port Sabrino has been governed from the distant Kingdom of Esterhaal since 1601, when a storm-blown merchant fleet put in for repairs and, by most accounts, simply stayed. Its narrow streets mix Esterhaali tiled churches with Tamberlayan tea houses.
Many residents say they expect little change in daily life. "The tea will be the same. The traffic will be the same," said shopkeeper Amara Lusende. "Maybe the stamps will be prettier."
Tamberlay has promised to keep Port Sabrino's casinos, currency and right-hand driving for at least 50 years. The departing governor said he would take home "a deep affection for this city and roughly 40 crates of its pastries."
