LAKE WENDELL, Minnesota (CNM) -- When a consultant hired by the Lake Wendell City Council listed the town hall clock as "non-compliant" in his Y2K report, residents were alarmed. The clock, after all, has kept time over Main Street for 112 years.

It turned out the consultant had simply put every piece of equipment more than 20 years old on the list. "The clock has hands," said Mayor Janet Solberg. "It does not know what year it is. Frankly, neither do some of our council members."
The council nonetheless voted 4-1 to have the clock inspected, at a cost of $35, by a local resident with a tall ladder.
The consultant's $14,000 report also flagged the town's snowplow, the library's date stamp and a parking meter. All have been declared fit for the 21st century.
