COUNTDOWN TO Y2K

This page is not about fear. It is about common sense. Even if Y2K turns out to be nothing (and I hope it does), a family with 3 months of food and water is a family that sleeps well at night.

(my scanner is broken, real picture coming soon!)

Time Left

What You Need

Water: 1 gallon per person per day. Get 90 days worth.
Manual can opener (VERY important, do not laugh)
Cash. Small bills. ATMs may not work.
Generator + fuel (store fuel SAFELY)
Kerosene heater and lamps
Paper copies of bank statements from December 1999
First aid kit and 3 months of prescriptions
Board games (it will be a long winter)

The Stockpile

My Prediction

Nobody knows, and that is the point. The best case: a few glitches, a lot of jokes, and I eat canned peaches until June. The worst case: power out for weeks in January. Which would you rather be ready for?

I work in IT at a bank (I will not say which). I have seen the code. Some of it was written in 1971 by people who are now retired to Florida. We are fixing it as fast as we can. Draw your own conclusions.
