The code that runs Dashdot is called Dash, and as of this week it's
free software under the GPL.
Current release: Dash 0.3 (dash-0.3.tar.gz, 212K)
Requirements: Perl 5.005, a database, a web server, a cron daemon and a high tolerance for regular expressions.
Known issues
- The cron job that rebuilds the front page sometimes runs twice and produces two front pages. We call this a feature.
- displayStory() is 900 lines long. Do not attempt to read it after midnight.
- Moderation points occasionally go negative. We don't know what that means either.
- Posting a comment titled "first post" is blocked by the lameness filter. This is not a bug.
Patches welcome. So are bug reports, as long as they aren't about the 900-line function. We know.
