CEDAR NOTCH, Colorado (CNM) -- Skiers lined up before dawn Thursday as Cedar Notch Mountain Resort opened 14 of its 60 trails, a week earlier than planned, thanks to 30 inches of fresh snow.

"This is the best early-season snow we have had in five years," said resort spokesman Kyle Banning. "We would like to thank the snow, and also our snow-making guns, which are now feeling a little unnecessary."
The resort is offering a "Millennium Pass" good for every day from now through April 2000 for $499. A limited number of "Two Millennium Passes," good through 2001, are available "for the arithmetic purists."
Snowboarders now make up a third of visitors. Banning said tensions between skiers and snowboarders had eased, "although the skiers still complain about the pants."
