SAN ESTEVAN, California (CNM) -- The Fuzzle, a furry owl-like toy that babbles in its own language, sold millions last holiday season. Now a group of hobbyists says it has taught one to speak English -- specifically, the language of Wall Street.
"It says, 'Fuzzle loves Nasdaq up 40,'" said hobbyist Wendell Ong, who posted instructions on his home page. "It says it with real feeling."
The modification requires opening the toy, removing a chip and soldering in a new one connected to a modem. The toy's maker said it did not endorse the hack, and warned that it voids the warranty "and possibly the toy's sense of self."
Ong's Web site has received more than 200,000 visitors this week. He says his next project is a Fuzzle that reads e-mail aloud "in a very, very small voice."
