HALCYON SPRINGS, Florida (CNM) -- "Eat Like a Mammoth Hunter," by Dr. Gordon Flintwell, has been on bestseller lists for 38 weeks. Its premise: humans should eat only foods available before the invention of agriculture, roughly 10,000 years ago.

That means meat, fish, nuts and berries -- and no bread, pasta, rice or, Flintwell writes, "anything that comes in a box with a cartoon on it."
Nutritionists are skeptical. "Cavemen also had a life expectancy of about 30," said dietitian Rosa Delgado. "I would not take all of my advice from them."
Bakers say they are feeling the pinch. "People come in and look at the croissants like they are radioactive," said one Halcyon Springs baker. "Then they buy one anyway, and they eat it in the car."
