About AltaVisor

AltaVisor began in 1995 in a research lab at Gibson Mainframe Co., where a team of engineers needed a reason to keep a refrigerator-sized 64-bit computer busy over the weekend. They wrote a program that read the entire Web, which at the time took most of a Saturday. The program was named Skeeter, it grew eight legs, and it has not stopped reading since.

Today AltaVisor answers millions of questions a day. Our motto, smart is beautiful, refers to the search engine. It does not refer to the engineers, who still wear the same T-shirt from the 1996 company picnic.
